Arabic books on a Kindle.
Short answer: yes, it works, and I read in both Arabic and English on mine. But there are three things nobody tells you before you buy one in the UAE.
The books work. Arabic eBooks display properly on Kindle e-readers and the Kindle app.
The menus do not. Settings and menus stay in English, or another supported language. Arabic is not one of them.
The store is on Amazon.com. Amazon.ae sells the Kindle itself, but the eBooks come from the Kindle Store on Amazon US.
What it is like, from my own Kindle
I have read on a Kindle Paperwhite for about a year, in Arabic and in English.
Schopenhauer's The Wisdom of Life, Atomic Habits, Camus's The Stranger and Animal Farm have all been on it, some in Arabic and some in English, and the Kindle handles the mix without complaining.
The one catch is that everything around the book, the home screen, the settings, the menus, stays in English.
Where to get Arabic Kindle books from the UAE
The Kindle Store is on Amazon.com
This is the part that confuses people. You buy the Kindle on Amazon.ae, but there is no Kindle eBook store on Amazon.ae. Amazon.ae's own help page sends you to the Kindle Store on Amazon US, which has over a million eBooks in more than 40 languages, including Arabic. Set up the Kindle with your Amazon account and buy books from Amazon.com.
The Digital Arabic Library
In January 2026 Amazon and the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre launched the Digital Arabic Library on Amazon.com: more than 33,000 Arabic Kindle eBooks and 5,000 Audible audiobooks, with over 1,000 titles free at launch. Naguib Mahfouz, Taha Hussein, Ibn Khaldun's Muqaddimah and Ahmed Mourad are all in there. It is the easiest place to start.
Your own Arabic files
If you already have an Arabic book as a file, Amazon's Send to Kindle service puts it on your Kindle from the app, the website or by email. It accepts PDF, EPUB, DOC, DOCX, TXT, RTF, HTML and images.
- EPUB is best. The text reflows, so you can make it bigger.
- PDF stays as fixed pages. On a 6 or 7 inch screen, small print in a PDF can be hard to read. Zoom works, but it is fiddly.
- Only send files you have the right to read. Scanned books shared in group chats are usually neither legal nor readable.
What does not work (yet)
Arabic menus. Amazon lists the menu languages as English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese, Russian and Simplified Chinese. No Arabic.
Kindle Unlimited. Amazon.ae has no Kindle Unlimited page, and UAE readers report the subscription is not offered to UAE accounts. Check on Amazon.com before paying for a Kindle just for Kindle Unlimited.
The Windows app. Some readers report that Arabic books bought from the Kindle Store do not open in the Kindle app for Windows. On the e-reader and the phone app, they do.
